Updates were unable to be successfully installed (KB922770)

  • Windows Automatic Updates notified that updates were ready to be installed. After agreeing to the Express Installation, a message appeared saying ‘Updates were unable to be successfully installed - Security Update Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB922770)’. The Update icon will not go away, as the update cannot be installed, and there is no way to abort the update. How can I fix this problem? The computer is running Windows XP Professional.

Other people also seem to have experienced difficulties when installing security updates for the .NET Framework. To resolve this problem, you first need to uninstall all versions of the .NET Framework. Go the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Control Panel’ and open the ‘Add or Remove Programs’ control panel. Uninstall all existing versions of the Microsoft .NET Framework. Once this has completed, restart the computer. Then, download and install the .NET Framework 2.0, which is available at: support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 . After the .NET Framework has finished installing, restart the computer. Finally, install the security update and this should update without problem.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
