  • Windows Vista Menu Bar

    Tip of the Week

    The Windows Vista version of Windows Explorer does not display the menu bar by default. However, you can trigger the menu bar to display by pressing the ALT key. If you would like the menu bar to always be displayed and not hide, click the ‘Organize’ button > ‘Layout’ and enable ‘Menu Bar’. Now the menu bar will always display within Windows Explorer.

  • System files and virus scanner

    When completing a virus scan of the computer using CA eTrust Vet Anti-Virus the scan log reports that a number of files (58 files to be exact) cannot be scanned, such as NTUSER.DAT, SAM, SECURITY, etc. What files are these, and why can’t they be scanned?

  • Skype audio

    Recently a friend setup Skype on my Windows XP Professional computer. To talk over Skype I purchased a Logitech microphone headset. All seems to be working correctly, and I can hear other callers and also Windows system sounds (such as the Windows XP startup sound). However, other people cannot hear me. I have tried adjusting all the settings, and followed the Skype instructions, but still to no avail. Is it possible that I have faulty headphones?

  • Computer starting itself

    Our PC is haunted! It has suddenly started switching itself on at strange times of the day and night. I have checked all the Power Management options, but the problem continues. The computer is running Windows Me.

  • Open With list

    When I right-click on a .DOC file and select ‘Open With’ there are many different programs listed. I would like to remove some of these programs, but cannot find how this can be done. Also, how can I add new programs to the Open With list? The computer is running Windows XP.
