Windows ReadyBoost
-
Windows Vista includes a new feature called Windows ReadyBoost. This allows high-speed removable storage devices (such as USB flash drives or memory cards) to be used as an additional memory cache for Windows, boosting the performance of Windows without having to install additional RAM (memory) inside the computer. You do not need to use all the space on the drive for ReadyBoost, but can just use a portion of the drive, leaving the remaining portion for storing your own data. To use ReadyBoost, insert a high-speed storage device (e.g. a USB flash drive) into the computer and Windows will check whether the device can support ReadyBoost. If so, the AutoPlay window that appears will offer an option to use the device for ReadyBoost. Additionally, a “ReadyBoost” tab will be added to the drive properties window, accessible by opening Windows Explorer then right-click on the removable storage device and select “Properties”.
