No subject in Thunderbird

  • Thanks for your recent article on tweaking Mozilla Thunderbird. After going through the advanced settings I cannot find any settings to disable the warning message about email messages with no subjects. I often send messages without a subject line, and would like to disable the warning message. Is this possible?

As far as I am aware, there is no setting in Thunderbird to disable the blank subject warning. However, I did find an add-on for Thunderbird called “Allow Empty Subject” which performs the same function. This can be downloaded from: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/305 . As a side note, it is generally not good practice to send email messages without subjects. First, emails without subjects are more likely to be blocked by spam blocking software. Additionally, you may inadvertently irritate the recipient of your email messages since they cannot easily determine the purpose or subject of your message. Therefore, I suggest that you always send emails with subjects to promote good netiquette.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
