Windows Media Player does not recognise CD writer

When attempting to burn a CD through Windows Media Player, a message appears claiming no CD writer is available. So I instead need to make the CD through Nero, which works perfectly. Updating Windows Media Player to version 10 and then 11 has not resolved the issue. (more…)

Ending program rundll32.exe

On shutting down the computer a message appears on the screen saying ?Ending program rundll32.exe?. This is very annoying and slows down the shutdown process considerably. How can I stop this message from interrupting the shut down process? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

Repeat header on Word table

In Microsoft Word if you have a table that spans multiple pages, you may wish to repeat the header row on each page. This can easily be accomplished by selecting the top row in the table (which will be repeated), and then right-click and select “Table Properties”. In the window that appears, click the “Row” tab and enable “Repeat as header row at the top of each page”. Click OK to save and close. There are also numerous other useful settings in the Table Properties, such as allowing table rows to split over pages (this setting can be found on the Row tab) and specifying the height of rows (Row tab) and width of columns (Column tab). Computer and cold temperature

My computer does not like winter. Below 17 ? 18 degrees the computer will not start, despite repeated attempts. After heating the room to 20 degrees the computer starts immediately without problem. Is this normal, or does it indicate a hardware problem? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

Cannot access external webpages

Although I can send and receive email and access the BigPond home page, when attempting to access any other web page through Internet Explorer the page does not display. Interestingly, when I checked the Phone and Modem Options control panel there seems to be no modem installed, and the Device Manager says that the computer only has a PCI modem. The computer is running Windows XP and connected to the internet through a Speedstream USB broadband connection to BigPond. The computer is also running Kapersky for internet security. How can I restore access to web pages? (more…)
