Internet Explorer stream MP3 files

  • I often download large MP3 files (70 ? 80 MB) of talks and speeches from the internet. Rather than wait a long time for the files to completely download is there a setting in Internet Explorer 7 so I can stream the audio while the MP3 is being downloaded?

This is an extremely interesting question, which I was unsure about before researching the subject. As far as I am aware, there is not a setting in Internet Explorer 7 allowing you to stream downloads such as MP3 files. Therefore, you would need to use a third-party program (such as a download manager) to achieve this task. However, my research has indicated that because streaming is dependent on the server hosting the content, you will not be able to stream files unless the provider supports streaming. Additionally, MP3 files are by nature not designed for streaming, and therefore the server would also need to have the appropriate software and services to support the streaming of the MP3 file to the client. So, unfortunately it seems this cannot be done from the client side. However, if any other readers have suggestions or know of methods about how this can be achieved then please write in.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
