WinZip encountered a problem. C: drive is not a valid drive

  • Attempting to install the latest video card drivers for my computer produced the message ?WinZip encountered a problem. C: drive is not a valid drive?. There was a lot of data on the C drive at this time, so I am unsure whether this makes any difference. On a different topic, is there any way to get Thunderbird to display the email address of a sender, in addition to their name?

This message is normally generated when you are running a WinZip Self-Extracting archive file, and WinZip is having difficulties extracting that file to your local hard drive. You mentioned that there was a lot of data on your drive when you attempted to extract the archive, so it is possible there was not enough space to allow the full extraction of the ZIP archive. To determine whether this is the case, look at the amount of free space on your hard drive and compare it to the size of the archive file. To check the amount of free space on your hard drive, go to the “Start” menu > “My Computer”. Right-click on your hard drive and select “Properties”. In the window that appears, click the “General” tab. This will provide you with information regarding the amount of free space on the hard drive. Next, you need to check the size of the video drivers self-extracting ZIP archive. Find the video drivers file, then right-click on this file and select “Properties”. Look at the size of this file. Since this is a compressed file, the amount of free space you will need to extract this file will be more than the actual file size. Therefore, you should need at least double the amount of free space on the hard drive to extract the file. If there is not enough free space, you will need to make more free space by either deleting files you no longer require, or moving these files to somewhere else (such as an external hard drive or CD/DVD).

However, should you have plenty of free hard drive space but the problem continues, this is indicative of a corrupt self-extracting ZIP archive. In this case, I suggest you try re-downloading the file from the video card manufacturer’s website and then attempt to extract the contents.

Regarding your second question, about displaying the senders name and email address within Thunderbird, I assume you ask this question because at the moment only the senders name is being displayed when viewing an email message (which is linked to their email address), as opposed to displaying their name and email address together. This happens when the senders name is in your Thunderbird address book. Thunderbird realises the sender is in your address book and only displays their name (as it assumes you already know their email address). To disable this function, in Thunderbird go to the “Tools” menu > “Options”. In the window that appears, click “Advanced” and then untick “Show only display name for people in my address book”. Click OK to save and close.
