Mozilla Firefox 3.0
By skid on June 30, 2008 in Tip of the Week | No Comments
Mozilla Firefox is an outstanding alternative web browser, which is gaining increasing traction in the web browser arena. On 17th June 2008 the latest version of this web browser was released, dubbed Firefox 3.0, which set a new Guinness World Record for the most number of software downloads in 24 hours. For current users of Firefox, I would encourage upgrading to this new version of the browser. For those who have not yet tried Firefox, this is a great opportunity to try this excellent browser. Firefox can be downloaded for free at www.mozilla.com/firefox . Thanks to Andy from rural NSW for this tip.

In Mac OS X you can configure hot corners, which will trigger a certain event when the mouse is moved to a particular corner of the screen, such as showing the screen saver or minimising all windows and displaying the desktop. To configure hot corners, go to the Apple menu > “System Preferences” and open the “Desktop & Screen Saver” preferences. Click “Screen Saver” and the “Hot Corners” button. (more…)

U3 removal
By skid on June 23, 2008 in Windows XP | No Comments
I have bought a SanDisk Cruzer 1 GB thumb drive, which incorporates something called the “U3 System”. I only wanted the thumb drive to be a data repository, and have found the U3 to be distracting and very annoying with all its pop-up windows and menus that appear when the drive is inserted into the computer. The thumb drive appears within Windows as a removable disk and also a CD-ROM drive. In an attempt to remove U3 I found a program called “Launchpad Removal Program” on SanDisk’s website, but this does not seem to work. Subsequently, I also tried formatting the drive but this also did not remove U3. Looking through Disk Management I found that the removable drive and CD-ROM drive portions of the thumb drive are classified as partitions on the thumb drive, but cannot be removed (as the “Delete Partition” button is disabled). Can you please explain how U3 can be removed from the thumb drive? (more…)
