iPhone Screencapture
By skid on September 29, 2008 in Tip of the Week | No Comments
Ever since getting an iPhone I have been having good fun with all the features. However, as I recently discovered, there are also several hidden features. A particularly useful feature is if you hold down the menu button at the bottom of the phone, and also press the power button at the top of the phone, the iPhone will capture whatever is currently on the screen and save it into the Photos section. This allows you to take screen captures of various applications and screens on the iPhone.

Javascript is not enabled

My daughter is attempting to access the Mathletics website (www.mathletics.com.au) for school. However, whenever we visit the website a message appears saying “Javascript is not enabled”. This same problem occurs in both Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox. I have enabled Active Scripting in Internet Explorer (through the “Tools” menu > “Internet Options” > “Security” tab and the “Internet” zone) and also enabled Javascript in Firefox (through the “Tools” menu > “Options” > “Content” tab). I have also tried disabling the computer’s internet filter (Integard) and antivirus software (AVG) but the problem still continues. (more…)

The computer is running Windows XP Professional SP2. (more…)

When I came back from holidays there were three icons which had mysteriously appeared on the Windows desktop: Spyware and Malware Protection, Privacy Protector, and Error Cleaner. The computer is now running very slow, with a lot of pop-up messages about internet attacks, adware, malware, and spyware. Can you explain what has happened here? The computer is running Windows XP and Norton Antivirus. (more…)

VirtualBox
By skid on September 22, 2008 in Tip of the Week | No Comments
Virtualisation is an excellent technology, allowing you to run multiple guest operating systems within the one host operating system. For example, running Windows XP within Mac OS X. There are several commercial virtualisation packages available, such as VMware and Parallels, as well as a good free virtualisation system. VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) is an open source virtualisation software package available for several platforms (including Windows and Mac) and is free to download.
