Taking screen shots is a very useful function, especially if you wish to explain a certain function to another user or are compiling a user guide. The in-built Windows screen shot facility (using the PrtScn button) is simple, but is also limited to only taking shots of the entire screen, or a particular window, and then having to paste the screen shot into another application. An excellent free screen shot utility is called Lightscreen. This is a very lightweight program allowing you to take screen shots of various different areas, and save them in a range of formats (including the loss-less PNG graphics format).
