    Tip of the Week

iLife has been staple software for anyone who owns a Mac computer, incorporating iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, and iWeb. iMovie has gone through several incarnations, particularly with iMovie 08 which took a new approach to video editing. Unfortunately this resulted in many features of iMovie 06 being lost in this newer version. While Apple provided a workaround (whereby licenced users of iMovie 08 could download iMovie 06 for free at support.apple.com/downloads ) it would be nice to have a more functional version of iMovie 08. Fortunately with the release of iLife 09 this has been achieved with iMovie 09, incorporating the new approach to movie editing as found in iMovie 08 with the functionality of iMovie 06 plus more. I would encourage all interested to take a look at this new product.

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel”. The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

    Tip of the Week

If you are looking to create some Word documents for a particular purpose, or in a particular format, there are a large number of free templates available at the Office Online website: office.microsoft.com . This includes various templates for Word and PowerPoint to name a few applications. This could save you many hours of attempting to make your own templates, and also provide a quick way to make some rather nice looking documents and presentations.

  • Service Pack 3 Reboot Loop

After installing Service Pack 3 on my Windows XP Professional computer the computer continually restarts when the Windows splash screen appears. I found a workaround to allow the computer to successfully boot involves tapping the F8 key on startup and selecting the hard drive as the source for booting. I found this workaround strange since the hard drive is already set as the first boot device in the BIOS. Using a restore point did not fix the problem, neither did completing a repair installation of Windows XP. Using the workaround method I have salvaged all the data I wish to preserve, but I do not particularly want to reinstall the operating system at this stage if the problem can be rectified. (more…)
