Internet Power-Off

  • After about 10 – 15 minutes on the internet my laptop will turn itself off. This problem only happens while on the internet.

Since this problem only occurs when on the internet my suspicion is there might be some malware or a virus on your computer which is causing the problem, and it is triggered when you are online. As such, I suggest that you first complete a full virus scan of your computer. If you do not already have an antivirus program then I recommend using AVG Antivirus Free (free.avg.com). This is a free virus scanner which is very good and effective. Once you have scanned the computer for viruses and removed any identified threats, you should next scan the computer for malware. The three utilities which I recommend for this purpose are Ad-Aware Free (www.lavasoft.de), Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org), and Windows Defender (www.microsoft.com/downloads). These three utilities should be able to detect most threats which may be installed on your computer. When installed, scan your computer with each tool individually. Once the scans have completed I suggest that you restart the computer and then do another scan, in case the threat managed to reinstall itself on reboot. After your computer has been given a clean bill of health, check whether the problem continues. Please contact me again should you find that the problem persists.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
