Websites Not Displaying Correctly in Safari

When accessing some websites on my MacBook Pro using Safari it seems that the menu system on the sites do not work correctly. As an example, when selecting menus from the left-hand side of the site of my cricket club in the ACT I attempt to select these side menus, which subsequently offer up sub-menus, I cannot move the mouse pointer to the sub-menu without the original menu shutting or disappearing. The website works perfectly fine from other Windows-based computers which I have used. Do you have a solution for this problem? (more…)

Windows ZIP Support

Quite a few people do not realise that Windows XP and later have inbuilt support for compressed ZIP files. If you receive a ZIP file, you can easily open the file by double-clicking on the ZIP file. To extract the ZIP file, right-click on the file and select “Extract all…”. Additionally, the creation of ZIP files in Windows is also easy. If you want to create a ZIP file with a particular file (or files), simply right-click on the file(s) and then select “Send To” > “Compressed (zipped) Folder”.

Restoring ASR Backup Without Floppy Drive

Recently I made a complete backup of my computer using the Windows XP Backup Utility. However, the computer does not have a floppy drive so I cannot recover the backup unless I fool the computer into thinking the CD-ROM drive is a floppy drive. Is there a better way to achieve the same result? (more…)

iTunes Encountered An Error

Since installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 I have been unable to use iTunes. When I attempt to start iTunes or Quicktime a message appears saying “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience”. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes which installed, but the error persists. I suspect that because I am not able to run either iTunes or Quicktime that the problem is related to Quicktime. (more…)
