Music Distorted When Burning DVD
-
When listening to music while burning a DVD the music sounds scratchy and distorted. It does not matter whether I am using iTunes or Windows Media Player to listen to music, both have the same result. The computer is running Windows XP.
There could be a few reasons for degraded sound quality when listening to music while burning a DVD. In the first instance, the music may be skipping which is why it sounds scratchy and distorted. Skipping music occurs when the computer cannot process the music fast enough to play the sound continuously and thus skips. This is often due to a resource constraint or bottleneck on the computer. If you are using an older computer with limited RAM and CPU speed then it may be taxing the computer too much by attempting to play music while also burning the DVD. Additionally, you may have other background programs and processes running which are taking-up system resources, further constraining available resources. Should you be using an older computer then I suggest that you try closing all background applications and programs before trying to burn a DVD and listen to music at the same time, to see whether that solves the problem. It may not be a long-term or convenient solution, but at least you will know whether a resource constraint is the problem. That said, if this does not resolve the issue then it is still likely to be a resource issue if you are running an older computer.
Before taking the leap to purchase a new computer there are some things you can try to address this issue with the existing computer. If you have an older computer then it is likely over the years there has been a build-up of old files, registry entries and other data on the computer. This phenomenon is known colloquially as “bit rot” meaning the older a computer gets, the slower the computer operates due to this build-up of old data. Therefore, I would suggest that you backup all data you wish to keep on the computer and then complete a clean reinstallation of Windows. This will clear out all that old data which has been resident on the computer for the past several years and give you a clean machine. This should run much faster and hopefully also not exhibit the performance problems which are inherent with your machine at the moment.
