Cannot Find Windows Backup Utility
By skid on December 21, 2009 in Windows XP | No Comments
In a recent column you provided instructions on using the Windows Backup utility. I followed your instructions diligently, but could not find this Backup program on my computer. When I go to the “Start” menu > “All Programs” > “Accessories” > “System Tools” the only program that bears any relation to backup is the “Files and Settings Transfer Wizard”. This seems to only handle backing-up files and settings, not full drive backups including applications. Have I done something wrong? Should I not be able to use the Windows Backup utility can you recommend a free backup program? I have looked at Cnet Downloads and found some which seem to fit the requirements, but I am unsure whether they are legitimate and as good as commercial products such as Acronis. (more…)

I have tried numerous freeware web creators but they all store the images in separate folders. Do you know of any freeware utilities that can create a webpage and store all associated files in the one root directory? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

VMware Fusion 3

Users of VMware Fusion, a virtualisation product on the Mac will be pleased to hear that the new version (VMware Fusion 3) was recently released. This has increased support for Snow Leopard and also for running Windows 7 as a guest operating system, including support for Aero. Unfortunately this new version of VMware Fusion is not a free upgrade, but is fairly well priced for existing users. More information can be found at www.vmware.com/products/fusion/ .
