Windows 7 Favorites Side Bar
By skid on November 29, 2010 in Tip of the Week | No Comments
On opening a folder in Windows 7 a side-bar is visible on the left-hand side titled “Favorites”. You can add frequently visited locations to this Favorites bar allowing for quick access to those locations. To add a folder to the Favorites list, simply open or navigate to that folder and then right-click on the “Favorites” side-bar heading and click “Add current location to Favorites”. Alternatively, you can also drag a folder onto the “Favorites” heading to add that folder to the list. To remove a folder, simply right-click on the folder to be removed in the Favorites list and then select “Remove”.

However, I am unsure about what is Data Execution Protection and how this procedure can be completed. The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

Copying Pictures to CD
By skid on November 29, 2010 in Windows Vista | No Comments
Copying pictures to a CD-R using Windows Vista also copies all of my personal files (such as documents). How can I “unlink” the picture files from all other documents so that only the pictures I want are copied to the CD? Otherwise, if I sent the CD to anyone they would be able to open all of my personal documents! (more…)

Mac OS X Show Path Bar
By skid on November 22, 2010 in Tip of the Week | No Comments
When people move between a Windows and Mac computer confusion often arises when browsing folders in the Finder, as the path to the folder being viewed is not displayed by default. However, you can manually enable the path bar showing the location of the folder currently being viewed. Open a window in the Finder displaying a folder and then go to the “View” menu > “Show Path Bar”. You will notice that a new bar appears at the bottom of the window showing the path to the current folder.

Text Not Printing
By skid on November 22, 2010 in Printer | No Comments
After several years of ownership my Canon PIXMA iP6000D printer will no longer print text, although graphics still print alright. After completing a deep clean and maintenance (including nozzle check) a test page from Windows will only print the Windows logo and no text. Connecting the printer to a different computer produced the same problem, so it does not seem to be computer dependent. I have tried changing the text colour from black to red and it printed the text, albeit in red colour. I then installed a new black ink cartridge, completed a clean, but it still does not output text in black. It seems that the black jet is not getting a signal for some reason. Do you have any other suggestions? (more…)
