I am attempting to install the “Pinnacle PCTV TV Centre Pro” software onto a laptop computer running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. However, immediately upon entering the serial number during the installation the blue screen of death appears with the message BAD_POOL_HEADER with quite a bit of other output. The computer then restarts into Safe Mode. I have downloaded the latest version of the software and drivers but the problem continues. Pinnacle advised me to turn off any spyware or antivirus software on the computer (as I am currently running ZoneAlarm Pro, AVG Free 8, and Spyware Doctor 6) but the problem continues with this software disabled. Can you help? The software installs perfectly fine on my other computer running Windows XP. (more…)

When starting my computer the following error message appears on the screen: “Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bin\M3PLUGIN.DLL. The specified module could not be found”. I don’t know why this problem is occurring or how it can be fixed. The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

    Tip of the Week

Long-time users of Windows may not be familiar with some handy shortcuts which can be used to close windows and also maximise or restore windows. Double-clicking on the icon in the menu bar of a window (in the top left-hand corner of the window) will close the window, making for a very quick and easy way to exit programs. Alternatively, double-clicking on the title bar of a window will maximise the window and double-clicking on the maximised title bar of a window will restore that window to a smaller size.

  • Windows XP Stuck in Selective Startup Mode

Windows XP appears to be stuck in Selective Startup mode and will no longer boot into Normal mode. When going into the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) to configure the computer to boot back into Normal mode the setting is accepted but the next boot will still start in Selective Startup mode. This problem has come about as the computer was refusing to shutdown properly. I thought that this may be due to some process running in the background which is interrupting the shutdown process, so I used the System Configuration Utility to disable some processes from loading on startup. Disabling certain programs and processes from loading on startup placed the computer into Selective Startup mode, and I can now not get the computer to exit from this mode. There are no System Restore points available so I am unable to restore the computer to a previous state. Can you assist in getting the computer to properly boot? (more…)

  • Outlook Express Printed Email Font Size

About 6 months ago some major virus problems were experienced requiring a reinstall of Windows XP on my computer. Since then I have had an infrequent, but nevertheless annoying, problem when printing emails from Outlook Express. Occasionally when printing emails the size of the font is almost unreadably small, even though it appears in the normal font size on screen. The problem occurs on about 5% of the occasions that I print emails. There seems to be no pattern – it occurs with both inwards and outwards mail items and is not consistent for any particular email address. Are there any ideas for fixing this annoying problem? (more…)
