Works Calendar Email

  • Most of my incoming emails have an attachment icon which when clicked shows my own Microsoft Works Calendar page. However, this does not happen with all email messages. This problem is driving me nuts so I would appreciate your advice!

This is certainly an interesting problem which got me thinking for a while. First, it is highly unlikely that other people have gained a copy of your Works calendar and are constantly emailing you the calendar. Most likely there is an attachment on the messages because your email client does not know how to handle a particular portion of that email message. For example, sometimes when people using a different platform send me an email, Microsoft Outlook will show the email but with various attachments named ATT00001.htm which has portions of the email text contained within. This is because the email client does not know which particular portions of the email should remain in the email body and instead considers them an attachment and displays as such. I am guessing that your email client is doing something similar (although I can’t say for certain without information on the particular email client that you are using) and somehow your Works Calendar program has become associated with the file type of the attachment, so that whenever you double-click to open the attachment it opens the Works Calendar program thinking that is the correct program to be using in order to open and view the attachment.

The easiest way around this problem would be to change the file association so that the file type of the attachment can open in the correct application, rather than Works Calendar. Without knowing the file extension of the file I cannot provide advice on this procedure as I don’t know which program should be used to open that type of file. If you would like to send me a screen shot of an affected email, with the full name and file extension of the attachment clearly shown, then I can provide further advice. Please do a screen shot instead of forwarding the email itself, as my email client may be able to interpret the content of the attachment correctly and therefore it may display correctly for me without the need for an attachment!

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
