Barracuda RBL

  • Can you please tell me more about the Barracuda problem and what I can do about it?

I assume that you are asking this question because when you send an email to a particular recipient it bounces with the message that you are being blocked by the Barracuda Reputation Block List (RBL). The BRBL (www.barracudacentral.org/rbl) is a service established by Barracuda Networks which is essentially a list of IP addresses that are known to send spam. Companies operating mail servers can subscribe to the BRBL so that if any email from an IP address on the list is received it is automatically blocked and bounced to prevent users on their system from receiving emails from known spammers. However, occasionally legitimate IP addresses have been known to work their way onto such lists and block legitimate emails from being received. In these situations you can request a removal from the BRBL (www.barracudacentral.org/rbl/removal-request). However, you need to be aware that this is something which generally the mail server operator needs to do. In other words, if you are using your ISP’s mail server and finding that you are getting BRBL bounce messages, then your ISP will need to request the removal. Therefore, my suggestion would be to contact your ISP (or whoever operates the mail server that you are using) and forward them the bounce message so that they can investigate the problem and request a removal if necessary.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
