It seems like it was only a few months since Firefox 5.0 was released, and you would be correct in this assumption. However, as part of Mozilla’s new rapid release plan Firefox 6.0 was released on 16 August 2011. This new release adds a few user interface improvements along with a new permissions manager allowing you to be more granular regarding the information that you are willing to share with websites. The latest version of Firefox can be downloaded from www.mozilla.com. You can also find information on the release history of Firefox, together with new features integrated into this latest version, at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Firefox#Version_6.0.

  • Outlook Opens PDFs in Word

Following some computer problems I reinstalled Windows 7 and supporting software. Unfortunately, before installing Adobe Reader I attempted to open a PDF file attached to an email. A message appeared asking which program I would like to use to open the file and I selected Microsoft Word. From that point onwards whenever I attempted to open a PDF file it always opened in Word which cannot read PDF files, instead showing an error message. I have now installed Adobe Reader and can open saved PDF files through the Adobe Reader program. However, I still cannot open PDF files attached to email messages as they continue to open in Microsoft Word. It seems that Windows does not recognise that I have installed Adobe Reader and this is a better program to open PDF files. How can I reset the system to open PDF files in Adobe Reader? (more…)

Whenever I print a Word document line numbers are always added (such as you might find in a legal document or a contract). I have trawled through the various menus but have been quite unable to find a way to turn this (very annoying) feature off. I am using Word 2003 and Windows XP. (more…)

Whenever I start-up my laptop computer the following error message appears: “C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\oclwjqp.dll is not valid win32 application”. I have no idea what this error message means or how to stop it from appearing. Could this also be causing a different problem on my computer where iTunes will not load, or is that a separate issue? Tip of the Week

If you use Microsoft Outlook for email at home or work then you may be interested in the ability to add a reminder to reply to email messages. This is particularly handy if you receive a message but only need (or wish) to action the message later, but don’t want to forget. To set a reminder for an email message, in the listing of messages right-click on that particular email then select “Follow Up” and click “Add Reminder”. In the window that appears you can set how you would like the reminder flagged (e.g. Follow up, Reply, or even type your own) together with start date for the reminder along with the due date and reminder date.
