    Recently I purchased a MacBook Air which came pre-loaded with Mac OS X Lion. Although this new software is generally good I do not like the introduction of “Mission Control” as this seems five steps backward over the previous “Spaces” functionality in Snow Leopard. Is there a way to revert to Spaces instead of Mission Control? (more…)

  • Wiki Farms

    Most people are familiar with the concepts of wikis by virtue of having used Wikipedia – essentially, the ability to have an online page which can be collaboratively edited by a community or group of people (which can also be linked to other pages) together with full version histories amongst other features. If you are interested in starting your own wiki for a particular purpose then there are plenty of “wiki farms” which can provide you with a hosted wiki. One such is Wikispaces (www.wikispaces.com) which provides both free and paid plans. A list of some other wiki farms is available at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wiki_farms .

  • Problems Installing Google Earth and iTunes

    I am encountering difficulty installing Google Earth and iTunes. While I can download the install files successfully when I attempt to run the installers an error message appears with code 0×80040905. Are you able to assist with solving this problem? (more…)

  • Wolfram Alpha

    If you need a complex algorithm solved, or have some other kind of factual query, then Wolfram Alpha (www.wolframalpha.com) is a fantastic service that you may find useful. You can enter factual queries (such as algebraic equations, or specific questions) and it will calculate or compute the answer to your query. If you have never used this site it is certainly worth a look, as at some point you will likely have some kind of question or query that Wolfram Alpha will be able to solve.

  • Internet Explorer Freezes on Exit

    When closing Internet Explorer a message appears asking whether I would like to close all tabs or just the current tab. If I click the “All Tabs” option the timer goes round and around forever and nothing is closed. If I click the “This Tab” button it usually closes but then the timer appears and the same thing happens. The only way to stop the timer is by going to the “Start” menu > “Turn off computer”. A message appears to say that Internet Explorer is not responding and asks whether I would like to end the process. This force closes Internet Explorer and turns off the computer, allowing me to restart and Internet Explorer works until the next time. The computer is running Windows XP with auto-updates enabled.
