CD drive refuses to open with CD-RW disc
By skid on February 14, 2005 in CD/DVD | No Comments
After inserting a rewritable CD (CD-RW) into my ASUS CD writer the drive refuses to open. The green drive light stays on and it sounds like the drive is continuously spinning the disc. However, the computer is able to read and write to the disk without any problem. The only way to open the drive is reboot the computer and press the eject button during reboot. The CD-RW was formatted using InCD. There is also a DVD drive installed which operates normally. (more…)

Whenever a disc is inserted into the computer DVD-ROM drive a blue screen appears saying ‘An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:00706100 in VxD scsi1hlp’. Because of this error I am unable to use any CD or DVD disc. A second problem occurs when loading Microsoft Office applications. It takes up to 10 minutes for the applications to load, and then another 5 minutes to load the actual document. This problem has only recently risen and I have never experienced this before. The computer is a Pentium III 500MHz running Windows 98 and Microsoft Office 2000. (more…)

Please insert a disk into drive
By skid on January 24, 2005 in CD/DVD | No Comments
About halfway through installing a program from a CD the installer program stopped responding. I ended the task using the task manager, but the program installed in full. However, after this event my CD-ROM drive has become inoperable. Every time I attempt to access the drive a message appears asking ‘Please insert a disk into drive’. Uninstalling and reinstalling the drive has not fixed the problem. The computer is running Windows XP Home and the CD drive is a Benq. (more…)

Not reading all parts of CD
By skid on October 25, 2004 in CD/DVD | No Comments
To my computer running Windows XP I have recently added a DVD burner in addition to the CD burner already installed. The other day I bought a multi-format CD, being a music CD that also includes software and a video. Using my work PC, Windows Explorer displays the files and directory structure on the CD, but does not display any audio tracks. On the other hand, Windows Explorer on my home PC can only read the audio tracks, and no other information. How can I view the video? (more…)

Invalid alignment was specified
By skid on October 18, 2004 in CD/DVD | No Comments
When burning audio files onto a CD-R disk the message ‘invalid alignment was specified’ appears and the CD becomes a drink coaster. Previously I made many copies of the same audio files without difficulty, and I can burn the same audio files onto CD-RW with no problem. The computer is 1.29GHz AMD processor with 1 GB RAM running Windows XP Home Edition. The CD writer is an ATAPI CD-RW 52XMAX. (more…)
