I have a 10X Pioneer DVD-ROM. I have heard that these drives can play DVDs. But when I put in a DVD, it would not play it. The software for the DVD (Matrox DVD player) will not start the movie on the DVD. I have reinstalled drivers and switched discs. Could this be a drive problem? (more…)

My computer frequently completely freezes up. It has been doing this for some time and I cannot detect any pattern in the circumstances of the freezing. Last night it froze whilst downloading a file from a website. In an attempt to cure that problem I installed a new hard disk and reloaded essentially the same programs. The problem remained so I assume that it arises from the software or the BIOS. I have Celeron 266, 64mb RAM. I have modem, a video capture card and a sound card. IRQ conflicts are:
IRQ 11 Buster II (A video capture program)
IRQ II Intel82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ II IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
IRQ 12 Trident 9440 PCI
IRQ 12 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering

I hope you can point me on the right track with this problem. I recently bought a Ricoh 20x CD Writer, mainly as a backup device. However, I thought as a bonus I could use it to clone my music CDs for the car. I haven’t had any luck. I am using Adaptec Easy CD Creator and CD Copier Deluxe 3.5b. Whenever I try to use either of these product to copy audio tracks the whole PC freezes. The writer is attached using IDE cable. I have a Celeron 333 running Windows 98 and the CD ROM drive is 50x. After recently installing a Creative DVD, now every time I put a CD into my CD-ROM drive, it won’t recognize it. I have been through the manual and it won’t tell me what to do. What do you think I should do? (more…)

I am attempting to install CD ROM programs using Windows 95 and “Settings > Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs” as per Manual I am confronted with message: ‘Windows was unable to locate Installation Program…Click Browse to manually search for the Installation Program’ (The CD ROM comes with no info. as to how to install it). Since the computer can’t know what CD ROM I’m going to try to install, how can it know what the drive is? What am I doing wrong? (more…)
