Age of Mythology reverts to desktop
By skid on May 12, 2003 in Games | No Comments
Age of Mythology refuses to run on my computer even though it installs and runs successfully on two other computers. No error messages appear when installing Age of Mythology but when attempting to run the program (either from the Start menu, the desktop icon, or the disk) the ‘Age of Mythology’ black window appears and I hear my CD drive accessing files. Then the window disappears, the drive stops, and I am back to the desktop! Updating the drivers for the video, sound card, BIOS, and DirectX does not fix the problem. Running the AutoUpdate utility from the Game Menu tells me the game has been successfully updated. Running the game in ‘AOM-No Sound’ and ‘AOM-No Video’ modes doesn’t help. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, and get the same result every time. Oddly enough, I have had no trouble with other modern, graphics intensive games. The computer is an Athlon AMD processor 1.1 GHz, 510 MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX400, Direct X 9.0, Realtek AC’97Audio, 55.9 GB HDD with 34.6 GB free running Windows XP Home Edition. Can you help? Computer locks up
By skid on April 28, 2003 in Games | No Comments
After installing a Hercules Prophet 9000 64 MB PCI graphics card the computer locks up frequently, especially when playing Descent 3 (even after installing the latest drivers). In order to restart I have to manually turn the computer off, using the on/off button. When installing the Hercules Prophet, I disabled the onboard card via the BIOS and installed the card according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The computer is an IBM 733 Pentium III with 256MB RAM running Windows ME. The motherboard has an onboard SIS graphics chip. Would installing Windows XP help the problem? (more…)

Graphics choppy
By skid on December 30, 2002 in Games | No Comments
My computer is a P4 1.7GHz with 256 MB RAM, 80GB hard drive, and a Geforce2 MX 400 video card. Since installing Battlefield 1942 the graphics have been ridiculously choppy, sometimes taking 30 seconds to catch up. The system I am running should be able to handle everything without a problem but it only seems to be getting worse. I have acquired the newest drivers for my video card and latest version of the game and have turned every video and sound option down as low as it will go. The machine is only a few months old and is not overflowing with interfering programs or anything. I turn off my antivirus scanning and any other processes on my toolbar but nothing seems to work. Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem? (more…)

Computer freezes during games
By skid on May 27, 2002 in Games | No Comments
Recently I upgraded my video card to a GeForce 2 MX200 so that I may play games which I have not been able to previously play. However, while playing games, such as AvP2 and Unreal Tournament, after a random period of time the computer freezes and the only way to make it work is to reboot. This also happens while attempting other CPU intensive tasks on the computer. I have tried downloading the latest drivers for my graphics card and for my motherboard but nothing seems to work. Could you please help me resolve this problem? (more…)
