Clock loosing time
By skid on March 29, 1999 in General | No Comments
I am running a 486 DX66 with 20mb ram with Windows 95. When I restart my computer every day I now notice that my clock time (in the system tray) has lost ground. It can be anything from two to eight hours out. The strange thing is that if I have the computer off, for example, for six hours, the clock is not always six hours behind. (When the computer is on, the time is accurate). Does this mean that my computer battery is failing? Or could some program be interfering with the clock? (I won’t list them all but I did notice the problem seemed to occur after I installed WordPerfect 8 and Windows Messaging - but that could be a coincidence). If it does mean my computer battery is failing, are they expensive to replace and can I do it myself? I am fairly computer-literate. (more…)

Running out of memory
By skid on November 23, 1998 in General | No Comments
I seem to be running out of memory too easily. I have a multimedia Pentium 133 with 32 meg RAM and Windows95. The specific example is when I have had to reboot or shut down the computer without using the Windows95 sequence. When restarting the computer wants to run Scandisk but runs out of memory half way through this procedure. After starting the system I can run Scandisk manually without any problem. Why won’t it work during the boot-up? (more…)

Font problems
By skid on November 9, 1998 in General | No Comments
I am wondering if you could help me. I have a Macintosh LC 630 and bought a CD ROM of fonts KEY FONTSPRO to augment the choice of fonts from Microsoft Word. When I began to load the fonts I made the mistake of trying to load all of them onto the hard disk. I soon received a message that there were too many fonts for the space and aborted my request. I then loaded individually those that I would use most often but one font is behaving quite differently from the others. I want to remove this font from my list of choices and replace it. It loaded in the initial loading and defies all my attempts to remove it. When I attempt to Trash the particular font - Bodoni - I get the message - “The name Bodoni Recut… (bold, italic) 13 is already taken. Please use a different name.” I get the same message when I double click on the item in my list of fonts in the System Folder although other fonts I have loaded open to show details of the contents in the suitcase. I’ve tried renaming the font but this has not been successful. I’ve used Find File and am told I have only one file for Bodoni. Could you please tell me how to remove this font? (more…)

I’ve formatted it, I’ve made sure it could read my LC. It will mount it but won’t start up. I’ve done every thing *Well not every thing* it worked on my mates machine (a nice Powermac G3 minitower with lots and lots of stuff) it just won’t work. Please help! (more…)
