When attempting to use my CanoScan D646U scanner a message appeared saying “Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected. Check status. Scanner driver maybe closed” which is followed by the message “Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check connection then restart Toolbox”. I have confirmed that the cables are connected to the scanner and all appears to be in working order. I have tried to reinstall the scanner software, but when attempting to uninstall the scanner a message appears saying “C:\Program Files\Canon\ScanGear Toolbox CS\SGTBox.exe is in use. Please close the application using this file and launch UninstallShield again”. How can I regain use of the scanner? The computer is running Windows XP Professional. (more…)

  • Camera Not Recognised by Windows

I recently purchased a Kodak Easy Share V1003 digital camera. When installing the camera software on the computer Windows crashed mid-installation, and I was unable to get the computer to boot successfully. To recover from this problem, on boot I pressed the F10 key and completed a system restore. This fixed that problem, and the new camera works correctly, but has resulted in another issue. I also have an older Kodak camera, and whenever I plugged this into the computer the “Scanner and Camera Wizard” appeared allowing me to download photos from the camera. However, this no longer happens. When I go into the Control Panel and attempt to manually open the “Scanner and Camera Wizard” nothing appears, so it seems that the camera is no longer being recognised by Windows. This seems to be confirmed in the Device Manager, as the camera appears as an “Unknown Device” under “Universal Serial Bus controllers”. If I unplug the camera, this entry disappears. When I plug the camera back into the computer and click “Scan for hardware changes” the “Unknown device” reappears with a yellow exclamation point icon. Can I fix this problem so I can use the camera again? (more…)

On starting the computer an error message appears advising that ‘ScannerFB has encountered a problem and needs to close’. This began after downloading a batch of Windows updates. I have read this problem is related to HP scanners, but I do not have an HP scanner connected to the computer and have never owned an HP scanner. Also, the updates downloaded from Microsoft had no connection with HP. How can I stop this error appearing on startup? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

When using the Scanner and Camera wizard a message appears saying ‘Unable to communicate with the Imaging Device. Please make sure it is connected and turned on’. The computer also says it cannot find the software for the camera, even though the software is definitely installed. The computer is running Windows Me. (more…)
