ScannerFB has encountered a problem and needs to close

Whenever Windows starts a message appears advising: ‘ScannerFB - ScannerFB has encountered a problem and needs to close’ followed by the usual details of submitting an error report. This message is very annoying. Is there a way to prevent it from appearing? The computer is running Windows XP SP2. (more…)

Cannot download from camera

Recently I changed scanners from a Hewlett Packard Scanjet 3300C to a Canon Canoscan FB630P. The new Canoscan works, but I am now unable to download photos from my Sony Cybershot DSC-P9 digital camera. Although the camera is plugged into the computer through a USB connection, nothing happens. Normally, the ‘Scanners and Cameras’ wizard would appear as soon as the camera is connected, allowing me to download the photos. So, I manually open the ‘Scanners and Cameras’ control panel and a message appears saying the device is not connected, and I must follow the wizard to install the camera, but the camera is not listed in the device list. This issue only arose since the installation of the new Canoscan scanner. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition. (more…)

Pentax USB drivers were installed on my computer to connect with my Pentax Optio SV Digital Camera. The connection worked fine, however new files on the memory card were not being recognised. In an attempt to fix this problem I tried to reinstall the drivers, which required the Pentax USB driver CD. I inserted the CD and began the uninstallation, however the process stopped at 90% with the message: ‘InstallShield DLL. C:Program FilesPENTAXPENTAX USB DISK DeviceUninstall.DLL. Pressing the OK button produces a message that the uninstall procedure was unable to be completed. Re-running the setup on Modify, Delete or Repair modes does not work. Subsequently I have been unable to install new drivers which I downloaded from the Pentax website. Can you suggest a way to uninstall the old drivers? As a side note, the memory card has been checked separately and it downloads correctly to another computer. The computer is running Windows 98 SE. (more…)

Webcam not working with MSN Messenger

My Logitech Webcam works perfectly using the Logitech software, displaying the live video on the computer. However, when attempting to use the camera with MSN Messenger, it does not work. Reinstalling the Logitech software does not fix the problem. The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

Unable to open TWAIN source

Recently my CanoScan N340P scanner has refused to function. When attempting to use the scanner, a message appears advising ‘Unable to open TWAIN source’. I have checked all the connections and have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. What is a TWAIN and how do I find one? The computer is running Windows 98 SE. (more…)
