I have a problem with the dates of emails that I send and receive. They sometimes come up with very bizarre dates that are nowhere near the current date (like 1984). This happens sometimes on my incoming email but more on the outgoing email. People I send the messages to then lose it in their inboxes because of the date. I am running Windows 3.1 with IE 3.01 I think, on a Pentium 133. I rang up my service provider and we tried to work through it by fiddling around with the clock settings in control panels, but the date there was fine. What can I do to fix this problem? (more…)

Hi I’m having big problems when I’m on the internet 1 out of 2 times I’m in the net, a Netscape message will appear in a box stating: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor. Netscape caused an invalid page fault in the module Netscape.exe. When this message appears on the screen I have to close Netscape and reload it again. What does this mean and how can I repair this inconvenient problem? (more…)

A number of sources recommend deleting either unwanted e-mail messages or messages which contain a suspected virus, before reading the offending material. With Windows 3.1 (and IE 3.02) I cannot find any way in which to delete such messages without them being displayed since, once they are highlighted they
automatically appear on the screen and consequently are read. Could you please advise how to delete unwanted messages, without going through the process of highlighting them first, thereby incurring the possibility of downloading a virus.

I bought a new computer (PC) which included 1 month’s subscription to the Internet. At the end of the month I decided to change ISP’s and found a new ISP. I took my computer in to them to have the connections changed to their phone numbers etc. After several hours of work, including completely unloading and reloading the Internet Explorer software, they could still not get it to access their site. They concluded that the original retailer had coded in something that caused the software to revert to the original ISP even after everything was changed. Eventually they gave me a copy of Netscape, which I now use successfully. Can you tell me if there is a simple solution to this problem please? (more…)

I access the internet through a internet service provider and I am told that it uses proxy servers. What are proxy servers and why can’t I just go into Netscape and select ‘direct connection to the internet’? Sometimes the ’server’ is very slow or not working at all. Can I work around this? (more…)
