When I click on a website link in a Microsoft Outlook email, rather than going to the web page the following error message appears: “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator”. This has only happened recently. The computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium. (more…)

Lost Outlook Express Email
By skid on March 15, 2010 in Internet and email | No Comments
Recently I experienced an issue with Office 2007 and sought the assistance of Microsoft Technical Support. In order to resolve the problem I needed to install the Technical Support Assistant on my computer, allowing the Microsoft technician to remotely control the computer. This all went well and the problem was found and fixed. The technician then asked me to remove the Technical Support Assistant software to secure the privacy of my computer. During this process the Outlook Express installation on my computer was upgraded from Outlook Express XP to Outlook Express 6. As a result, I lost all my valuable emails. I was assured by a computer expert in Canberra that they are not lost but can be recovered. Could you provide step-by-step instructions on how to recover these lost emails? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

Disappearing Emails
By skid on February 15, 2010 in Internet and email | No Comments
My computer is running Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP SP3. Recently, I seemed to have experienced a two-week email drought where I kept getting the “No new messages” message, although I was able to send emails. When it became clear that I wasn’t just unpopular but that people were trying to send emails to me, I contacted my ISP who, through various trial and error means, determined that the emails were leaving their server, but were somehow not making it into the Inbox. There is no spam or message rules operating on Outlook Express or through security software, and the problem was rectified by deleting the email account and then re-adding it as a new email account (with exactly the same settings!) so that email is now being received. Is there any way that I can find the missing emails which, according to my ISP, were downloaded but which never appeared in our Inbox? From one of your earlier hints I tried compacting the message folders, but to no avail! (more…)

Windows Live Mail could not be started
By skid on February 1, 2010 in Internet and email | No Comments
Having downloaded and installed Windows Live Messenger from the Microsoft website I am having a problem directly accessing my email from within Live Messenger. Clicking on the Mail icon within Live Messenger it requests me to sign-in and then the following message appears: “Recovering the Live Windows Database”. Shortly after, an error message appears: “Windows Live Mail could not be started as could not open the Live Mail Message Store. Existing messages under Orphaned Accounts 0×00000000.2”. Then a final message pops-up: “Computer may be out of memory or disk full 0×80070002”. There is plenty of memory and disk space, and all the other Live Messengers accounts on the computer work perfectly, it is just my account. The computer is running Windows XP Service Pack 3 with all updates. (more…)
