  • Windows Mail Not Showing Pictures

Since upgrading from Windows XP to Windows Vista some months ago I have found a major difference in the way pictures are received as e-mail attachments in Windows Mail. At the top of the screen, immediately below the toolbar, the following message appears “Windows Mail has removed access to the following unsafe attachments”. Following this message is a list of code numbers for each individual picture. I am no longer able to click on each number in turn to reveal the picture on the screen as I formerly did with Windows XP, but instead I need to use the arrows at the side and bottom of the screen to scroll small portions of the screen. The picture is hugely expanded so only a small part of each picture can be viewed, and then the arrows must be manipulated downwards or sideways to reveal the next part of the picture. This hardly makes for a satisfactory method of viewing pictures. I tried to overcome this over-zealous attitude to e-mail security by lowering the Windows security protection level, but this did not seem to have any affect. I am also protected by Norton Antivirus. Is there any way in which I can revert to the easy method of viewing e-mail pictures that I previously had with Windows XP? (more…)

The toolbars in Internet Explorer have turned black. This doesn’t look too great, and also means that I cannot read the text on the toolbars. Can you advise how to return the toolbars to their normal appearance? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

  • Moving Emails in Outlook Express

My computer is currently experiencing two problems. First, when I try to move an email message in Outlook Express from the Inbox into another folder I right-click on the message and select “Move to Folder”. However, the folder into which I want to move the message does not appear, even though I have created the folder and it appears in the main Outlook Express window. At the moment the only way I can file away emails is to either leave them in the Inbox (which is not good, since I accumulate too many email messages) or print off a paper copy and then delete the email message! The second problem relates to some photos which have been emailed. I would like to save these photos but cannot figure out how this can be done. I have been opening the emails and then going to the “File” menu > “Save As”. However, the only options to save the photos are: Web Archive, single file (*.mht); Webpage, complete (*.htm, *.html); Webpage, HTML only (*.htm, *.html); Text File (*.txt). There does not seem to be a JPEG format, yet I believe that the photos are in JPEG image format. (more…)

  • Outlook Express Printed Email Font Size

About 6 months ago some major virus problems were experienced requiring a reinstall of Windows XP on my computer. Since then I have had an infrequent, but nevertheless annoying, problem when printing emails from Outlook Express. Occasionally when printing emails the size of the font is almost unreadably small, even though it appears in the normal font size on screen. The problem occurs on about 5% of the occasions that I print emails. There seems to be no pattern – it occurs with both inwards and outwards mail items and is not consistent for any particular email address. Are there any ideas for fixing this annoying problem? When I click a website link within an email Internet Explorer opens and a message appears saying “Buffer overrun detected. C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.RXE” and then Internet Explorer closes down. In an attempt to fix this problem I updated Internet Explorer but now I am unable to access Internet Explorer at all as the same message appears all the time. How can I fix this problem? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)
