@ symbol appears when typing quotation mark key

Whenever I type the symbol for a quotation mark (’) the @ symbol appears, and vice-versa. How can I rectify this transposition? The computer is running Windows 98. (more…)

Change dollar sign key to pound sign

I would like to change the default symbol of the Dollar ($) key to display the English Pound (£) symbol. The current language in Windows is configured as English (United States). The computer is running Windows XP Media Centre Edition and Microsoft Office 2000. (more…)

No mouse attached

Whenever my son starts his computer, a message appears that no mouse is attached. I have attached the mouse to another computer, and the mouse works. I also attached the mouse from my computer, and it does not work. It seems the fault is not with the mouse itself, but with the computer. The machine is running Windows 98 SE. (more…)

Cursor creep

When my computer mouse (an HP Cordless) is not in use, the cursor slowly creeps up and to the left side of the screen, seeking out the top left corner of the screen. How can I stop this ‘cursor creep’? A second question relates to Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware. When I run a scan using Spybot, normally no items are detected. However, if I immediately run an Ad-Aware scan, this will often detect a ‘critical’ intruder. Why is this happening, and do I need to scan using both utilities? Cordless mouse low battery warning

Recently my original cordless mouse (which plugged into the PS/2 port) ceased to operate so I replaced it with a Microsoft Optical Corded Mouse, which is also plugged into the PS/2 port. However, a low battery warning related to the original cordless mouse appears in the upper right hand corner of the screen every few minutes. I have tried connecting the new mouse to a USB port instead (using the included PS/2 to USB adapter) but the low battery warning still appears. How do I stop the low battery warning from appearing?
