Since installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 I have been unable to use iTunes. When I attempt to start iTunes or Quicktime a message appears saying “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience”. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes which installed, but the error persists. I suspect that because I am not able to run either iTunes or Quicktime that the problem is related to Quicktime. (more…)

I have been ripping my CD collection to MP3s using Windows Media Player for quite a while now, for backup purposes. Where the album and artwork information is not applied automatically by Windows Media Player I have been scanning the CD cover and manually typing the relevant information for the CD (such as track information). I recently lost one of the CDs and reproducing a copy of the CD was no problem, as I had all the backup MP3 files on the computer. However, I would like to reproduce the album artwork and track information. I assume that there must be a database of all the track information and artwork somewhere on the internet. Every time I attempt to view an embedded Windows Media Player video within a web page a green hazy image appears instead of an actual video. Flash-based videos, such as those found on YouTube, work perfectly. How can I fix this problem? The computer is running Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6. (more…)
