Cannot play DivX movies
By skid on December 4, 2006 in Multimedia | No Comments
I am attempting to watch some media on the computers which have been encoded in DivX format. The only player I can find which can play this format is the free DivX player. However, whenever I use this software it freezes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem persists. Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime, and PowerDVD are all unable to play the media, so I really need to use DivX. Can you help?

Video camera not recognised
By skid on August 7, 2006 in Multimedia | No Comments
Having recently bought a new Canon 830i video camera I wanted to transfer the video to the computer to edit and burn onto DVD. However, I found the computer did not have the required Firewire port. So, I purchased a 3 port Firewire (IEEE 1394) card which included Video Works 6.1 for video editing. Having installed the Firewire card, connected the camera, and started the software, all worked perfectly the first time. However, on all subsequent attempts when trying to run the software, and download video from the camera, a message appears saying ‘Camera not connected’. So, I cannot download any video from the camera. Removing the Firewire card and reinstalling has not fixed the problem. There is no mention of the Canon video camera in the Device Manager. (more…)

Capture Device Offline

When attempting to capture video using a Firewire connection from my Sony Handycam to Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, a message appears saying ‘Capture Device Offline’. Investigating the problem further, it seems a USB driver is not installed. However, when I try to install the USB software (from the camera software CD) Windows will not let me. Yet, I am able to capture images using the software which came with the camera, with no problem. Why won’t Premiere recognise the camera is connected? The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition. Recover deleted iPod music
By skid on May 22, 2006 in Multimedia | No Comments
Demonstrating on my work computer how the iPod works with iTunes, I connected my iPod to a new installation of iTunes which immediately started formatting my iPod for the ‘new’ installation of iTunes. I was able to stop the process before all my music was lost, but about 75% of the songs are gone. Due to the size of the music, I do not keep backup copies on my computer. Is there a way to recover these erased songs, or are they gone forever? (more…)
