Reinstall Multimedia Audio Device

Recently when deleting a few things from the Control Panel to help speed-up the computer, I mistakenly deleted ‘Multimedia Audio Device’. Now I have no sound on the computer. I have tried reinstalling the device but it does not work. The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

Could not find the file swflash.ocx

When reactivating the screen after being idle for a period of time, the first thing that is displayed is the following error message: ‘Could not find the file swflash.ocx’. I click OK and the error message. There is a file with that name on the C: drive, but I am unsure what to do with the file. This has only been happening since I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on the computer. (more…)

DVDs on Casablanca

For years now I have been editing DVDs on a Casablanca editing system. However, when I attempt to play these DVD on my Windows XP computer, the video plays fine but there is no audio. If I play the DVD on a standalone DVD player, both the video and audio plays. Can you help? (more…)

Playing music in a chat room

Occasionally I go to Yahoo chat rooms where a group of people play music. To play music I press the talk button and then play music from the speakers into the microphone. However, other people in the room play music through their sound card which allows them to type a message at the same time, and the sound quality is better. Can you tell me how to play from the sound card? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

Audacity recorded file skips

When using Audacity to record LPs to the computer hard drive, the recorded file always skips when being played back or copied to a CD. The computer is an IBM Aptiva with 64 MB RAM (54% free) running Windows 98. How can I prevent the skipping? (more…)
