When attempting to run a game, the following message appears: ‘A required DLL file, DINPUT.DLL, was not found’. I tried to find this file by using the ‘Find’ program and it came up with an empty folder. Is it possible that somehow this file has been deleted? The computer is a Pentium III running Windows 98. I have a fairly old PC with a 200 MHz processor with 256MB RAM running Windows 2000. I would like to be able to view AVI video clips. All the freeware/shareware players seem to require specifications above my PC. Are there any players that would work? I have Windows Media Player 7.01.00.3055. Is there a codec to allow this to play AVI format, or would I have to upgrade to Windows Media Player 9? (more…)

My Windows NT 4 computer at home is not connected to the internet. I downloaded Windows Media Player at my place of work and then copied the media player onto a CD. Will I have to use a modem for the NT 4 box and download more files from the Internet before Windows Media Player will work? (more…)

My Canon Scanner came with Adobe Photoshop 5.0 (limited edition) but no manual or interactive tutorials. The various books in the shops now deal with 6.0 or later and they are very expensive. Are there any decent interactive tutorials available on CD-ROM at a reasonable price? (more…)

The WAV files on my computer refuse to open and play. All the WAV file icons have changed to a picture of the flying windows logo even though they still have the .EXE extension. Double left-clicking on any WAV file has no effect and right-clicking on the file (which brings up a menu) doesn’t have the ‘Open’ or ‘Play’ commands. Would you have any ideas on how I can bring these files back to life, apart from reinstalling Windows? I am running Windows 98. (more…)
