  • Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.

    Outlook 2007 opens successfully when using the Administrator user. However, when logged on as a different user the program appears to start loading normally with the opening screen but then ceases with the following message: “Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window”. Clicking the OK button closes the message and the net result is that Outlook does not open.   • .doc is being used. Do you want to make a copy?

    Whenever I open a Word document the following message appears: “D:\.doc is being used by . Do you want to make a copy?”. This happens for every document and is quite tedious because I need to click the “Cancel” or “Close” button in the dialog box before I can work on the document. I am logged onto the computer using an administrator account. The computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. (more…)

  • Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Runtime Error!

    Whenever I open a Word document email attachment the document opens but is immediately followed by this message: “Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Runtime Error! Program – C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\WINWORD.EXE”. Clicking OK closes Word and the document. The computer is running Windows XP with Office 2002. (more…)

    Recently I read an article about cloud computing and the Microsoft Office Web Apps available at office.live.com. Since I don’t have Microsoft Office installed on my computer this seemed like a good way to access the applications for free. However, I don’t quite understand the concept of cloud computing and how it works – could you explain this a bit further, particularly regarding Microsoft Office Web Apps? (more…)

  • Importing Outlook Data from .bkf File

    Recently I purchased a new computer running Windows 7. On my old computer I used the inbuilt Window XP backup utility to make a backup of my data into .bkf files. However, Windows 7 does not recognise these files so I found a utility within Windows 7 called NTBackup which is able to open the files. This program does seem to work but I cannot recover my Outlook files. The program skips these files during the recovery and says “Warning: Unable to create “C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook - skipped. Reason: Access is denied”. Can you help with recovering these files? (more…)
