In WordPerfect for DOS 5.1 my file list performs normally, but in WordPerfect Suite 8, working on the same Win95B platform, the Modified date and time no longer change when I edit a file. Newly created files have the correct date and time, but there it stays. The clock seems OK, and Norton Antivirus (latest update) shows no viruses. Is my Windows Explorer corrupted, and should I reinstall it from the CD over the existing version? (more…)

In correcting something on my computer I appear to have wiped out an important file. When I attempt to open Winword or Word documents the message ‘xxx is not a valid Win32 application’ appears. I have reinstalled windows and then attempted to reinstall Word but I get the message that share.exe is not available. I’ve found share.exe but I get the message that it is an incorrect Dos version. Can you help?

  • Unable to use Word 97

I am having the world of problems with both of these applications. The problem started with Word 97 when I think I received a virus which my virus scanner picked and offered to repair. I clicked yes and since then I have been unable to use Word 97. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but the problem persists even though the program says that it is installed correctly. What happens is that I either create a shortcut or go through ‘Programs’ > ‘Microsoft Word’ and the application starts up and just as it would go to a blank page and it minimises. I click on the task bar of Windows 98 (where it shows I have ‘Document 1′ of Word 97) and it looks like it can maximise but can’t. I got by installing Word 95 and this worked well until the same virus detected/repair problem. I have tried reinstalling this but now encounter the same problem I had with Word 97. I have been told that it may be my path file instructions that need to be manually re-written. I don’t have the foggiest how to do this. Can you help? (more…)

  • Works default font

Running Windows 95, I do most of my word processing using Works version 4.5. For my financial records I use the spreadsheet in which the default font is Courier New. Since I prefer Times New Roman I alter all my entries to that font. However, when I cut-and-paste an entry to another location the empty space left from this move automatically changes the font of a new entry there into the default (Courier New) font which is quite irritating. Is there a way out of this? (more…)

I am currently running Win98 with MS Office 97 and Microsoft Outlook 98. I was wondering if you could tell me where and which file contains the address book so I can back this up. I have had to reinstall MS Outlook 98 previously and have had to manually key in my addresses. Thanks in advance. (more…)
