Printed pictures distorted
By skid on March 10, 2003 in Printer | No Comments
I have a Satellite 1400 notebook running Windows XP Home Edition and a Canon S300 printer (which produces good results). However, I had a CD-ROM made of a still camera film and I cannot print these pictures without distortion. The picture comes out as either short and fat or long and thin, even after following all instructions relating to paper size, quality etc’¦ The photo wizard constantly alters the image although I have seen a normal print preview. Other computers running Windows 2000 and Microsoft Publisher have produced normal photo prints with this CD-ROM. Can you help? (more…)

No data sent to printer
By skid on December 2, 2002 in Printer | No Comments
I have a fairly new PC running Windows XP Professional and a Canon BJC-5100 inkjet printer. Canon has not written a Windows XP driver for my model of printer. However, on the internet I found a site on how to use the Windows 2000 drivers in Windows XP. After following the instructions at the site to install the driver the printer still does not work. When attempting to print, a print job is spooled, but there does not appear to be any data sent to the printer (connected via the parallel port). The file remains in the spooler until it times out and is deleted. If I change the port to which the printer is connected, to COM1 (to which my modem is connected) the data light on the modem flashes, indicating that data is being sent. The person who built the PC for me connected a HP laser jet to the parallel port and it auto detected using Plug and Play and printed okay, indicating that the parallel port actually works sometimes. What can I do now? (more…)

Printer output garbled lines
By skid on August 5, 2002 in Printer | No Comments
Ever since upgrading our computer our Epson Stylus Photo 700 printer has not worked properly. Sometimes after the first page prints, it produces page after page with a couple of garbled lines. Epson Support suggested that we check the basics, reload the updated software, etc…but this was to no avail. Finally they advised that we should take the computer to a retail computer store to ‘do a bios’. We rang the computer store who want us to bring in the hard drive and printer to have a look. However, they will charge us for this service. Surely there must be a simple solution. All was well until we updated our computer - we previously had a Pentium with Windows 95. Our current computer is a Pentium III running Windows ME. (more…)

Printer not printing
By skid on July 15, 2002 in Printer | No Comments
My printer all of a sudden does not print any more even though I have done nothing to change its settings. It does print a test page when pressing a combination of buttons on the printer panel but will not print a Windows test page (which is prompted to be printed after installing the printer driver). The computer always comes back saying the printer is not connected. All cables are connected and all the lights on the printer are on. (more…)

I recently deleted some wallpaper files. Now every time I bootup this message appears: ‘Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or a Windows application. The Windows Registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the application using its uninstall or setup program. If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling the application to replace the missing file. Press a key to continue. C:SYSTEMVMM32Hpzio100.vxd’. Everything seems to be running just fine apart from the above annoying message on bootup. I have reinstalled Windows 98 and tried to get the file back through the System File Checker but I can’t find anything like it. What do you advise? (more…)
