Cannot hear any sound
By skid on July 12, 2004 in Sound | No Comments
Recently I had to move my computer tower. When reconnecting the cables I made sure that everything went back (in what I thought) was the right place. However, 3 small plugs may be in the wrong place and I cannot hear any sound. Also, all colours on the monitor are washed out (e.g. everything is pale and yellow flowers are now pale pink). Even after using system restore I cannot fix the display. (more…)

starter.exe
By skid on June 14, 2004 in Sound | No Comments
There is a file in the Start-up menu named ’starter.exe’. This file refers to ‘Ensoniq Mixer’ which I believe is a Trojan Horse virus. Attempts to disable stater.exe have failed, as it is simply re-enabled on the next reboot. How can I stop this from loading on startup? The computer is a Pentium III running Windows 98. (more…)

Speakers make crackly sound
By skid on September 29, 2003 in Sound | No Comments
Every time I play a sound file the computer speakers make a horrible crackly popping sound. The sound also occurs with any movement on the computer (e.g., scrolling with mouse, visualisations on media player). Updating the drivers does not fix the problem. The computer is a brand new P4 2.4 GHz with a GeForce 4 MX 440 and CD-RW & DVD-R running Win XP. (more…)

A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:c15FBB70 in VXD EMU1OK1
By skid on September 15, 2003 in Sound | No Comments
Until recently, whenever starting my computer it always booted into Safe Mode. In an attempt to fix this, we went to the computer fair and purchased a new hard drive which my son installed. Now, whenever the computer is turned on the following message appears: ‘A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:c15FBB70 in VXD EMU1OK1 (01) + 00012980. The current application will be terminated. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL. Press any key to terminate the application’. Pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing except display the message again. The computer will not then turn off and has to be turned off at the wall. The computer is running Windows 98. Any ideas? (more…)
