Searching for MacOS on wrong drive
By skid on November 4, 2002 in Specialised software | No Comments
After installing a second hard drive in my Mac when the computer boots up it searches for the operating system on this second hard drive (which is blank) rather than the other drive in the machine which contains the OS (in particular, MacOS 9.1). Running MacOS 8 and 8.1 have not fixed the problem. The Apple dealer advised starting up with the OS 9.1 disk and then selecting the startup disk. There is no start-up disk choice available! Can you advise? (more…)

INSTANTACCESS.EXE is linked to missing OFFICEACCESS.DLL
By skid on July 29, 2002 in Specialised software | No Comments
After upgrading to Windows 98 about every 5th or 6th time I startup a dialogue box appears saying ‘MSGSRV32 has performed an illegal operation’. If I am quick and click OK then Windows goes on to load, but if I am too slow, the machine freezes. Also, on opening Textbridge Pro 98 (OCR shareware) a dialogue box pops up saying ‘INSTANTACCESS.EXE is linked to missing OFFICEACCESS.DLL’. When I click OK, the program will load but the OCR doesn’t recognise Office 97. Both InstantAccess.exe and OfficeAccess.dll are in the TEXTBRIDGE PRO98BIN folder. Any suggestions would be welcome on these two problems. (more…)

Error loading geOshell.exe
By skid on July 29, 2002 in Specialised software | No Comments
Several weeks ago I installed GeoShellX - a program that debugs and changes the desktop totally, for a new, different theme. I downloaded the patch/program from www.geoshellx.com and followed the installation instructions and as the instruction told me to restart, I did so. Upon returning to my operating system the following message pops up once I log into Windows: ‘Error loading C:Documents and SettingsJTMy DocumentsprojectsSound ForgeR4-Output
eleaseshellgeOshell.exe. You must reinstall Windows’. I currently have a Pentium III 800 MHz running Windows Me. Is there any way to fix this problem besides reinstalling? I also have Windows 2000 on the same computer, so I can access my hard drive without hassle. (more…) -
Component transfer error - not enough space on the disk
By skid on July 8, 2002 in Specialised software | No Comments
I am having trouble installing the Sims Hot Date. When it is 95% installed an error message appears: ‘Component transfer error - not enough space on the disk C:PROGRAM FILESMAXIS’. There is 1.22GB free on the C drive which should be plenty. Also there is a problem running Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter. The computer tries to perform the scan/defragment functions about 10 times then gives an error message having only completed 4% of the defragment. I am using Windows 95. Could you provide advice on the above problems? (more…)

PDF files not opening in Acrobat
By skid on May 6, 2002 in Specialised software | No Comments
I have Windows 98 and Adobe Acrobat Reader (and RealPlayer). When downloading a file requiring processing by Adobe my system always brings up the Real Player screen which is not required. Adobe never gets a chance to process the required incoming file. The Adobe file is resident on my C drive as rp505enu.exe. When downloading Acrobat I was asked whether I wanted to send the file to System or All files. I left it at System. Can you assist please as I really need to access certain Adobe doctored information? (more…)
