I want to transfer tracks from records and tapes to my hard drive. Using a software program such as Audio Cleaning Lab would I be able to get good sound quality or do I need a high-quality soundcard? (more…)

I am using Windows 98 on a Pentium III. When I run Adobe Photoshop, the message ‘Cannot find Photoshop interface fonts and the Photoshop UI Font’ appears. I uninstalled Photoshop and installed it on my other computer, also running Windows 98, and the problem was not replicated. I reinstalled Windows 98 on the computer in question but it did not fix the problem. How can I fix this problem? (more…)

Everytime I open my computer and search around in C: drive for certain files I have downloaded I get the error ‘Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module PDM.DLL at 015f:4a01259d’. I click on the ok button then lose most of the icons in the system tray. This only occurred after the installation of Microsoft Visual Basic 6. I have reinstalled Windows 98 and Visual Basic 6 but that has not helped. I am running Pentium II 266 MMX, Windows 98, 64mb RAM, and a 3 gig HDD. Please help. (more…)

I am experiencing a problem with Microsoft Reader where all the text is upside down. I have found a fix on the Microsoft Knowledge Base which involved changes to the display settings. However, this does not work. The only thing left to try is to download a new driver for the sound card. I am at present trying to identify the brand name. The only documentation I have says that the card is an ‘ESSWA’. Can you offer any assistance to solve this problem? (more…)

I am unable to fully remove a McAfee evaluation program. After downloading it from the McAfee website I decided not to continue using that program. I removed it improperly into the ‘Recycle Bin’ instead of uninstalling it. As a result, whenever I switch on the computer a window opens saying ‘What’s this? Help Composer. The Help File … could not be found. Would you like to search for this file now? Yes/No’. Subsequently, I removed ‘McAfee VirusScan v. 4.0.3 (Evaluation)’ from ‘Add/Remove Programs’. However, the files SHUTIL.DLL, AVCONSOL, CSH.DLL, MCKRNL32.DLL, VSSTAT, etc… still remain in the C:PROGRAM FILESNETWORK ASSOCIATESMCAFEE VIRUS SCAN directory. Any attempt to delete these files brings up the message ‘Cannot delete. The specified file is being used by Windows’. Is there any chance of removing these files from my computer? (more…)
