Microsoft Home Publisher: One or more components are missing or broken
By skid on April 2, 2001 in Specialised software | No Comments
I am running Windows 98 SE on a Pentium 2 computer and am having trouble with Microsoft Home Publisher. It previously ran ok but after my CD drive failed I had to reinstall Windows and Home Publisher. Now I get the error message ‘One or more components are missing or broken’. On pressing ‘Help’ a message appears stating that the WMF graphics filter is missing. I’ve tried reinstalling Windows and Home Publisher but the problem remains. Any idea what the missing or corrupt file is and how I could fix the problem? (more…)

My PC is a Pentium 150MHz with 64mb RAM and 12gb hard drive running on Windows 95. When I try to load 3D Studio Max 3.1 it always hangs after I start the program. There is nothing wrong with the program as I have tried it on a friends computer which is a much lower capacity than mine. Please advise. (more…)

Performance Analyser Program for Windows errors
By skid on July 17, 2000 in Specialised software | No Comments
When I try to open the help in Performance Analyser Program for Windows (PAWIN v1.3) I get three error messages. Firstly, ‘Help Navigator can’t initiate connection with WinHelp’. When I click the ‘Ok’ button the second message appears, which reads ‘Winhlp32: An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway, click ‘Ignore’ and save your work in a new file. To quit this program click ‘Close’. Clicking the ‘Close’ button produces the third error message stating ‘Winhlp32: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor’. Under ‘Details’ it says that ‘Winhlp32 caused an invalid page fault in module WHLP16T.DLL at….’. I have a Thinkpad 770Z with Windows 98 SE installed. However, the strange thing is that I can load PAWIN onto my other computer (a Thinkpad 765D) with Windows 95 on it with no problems (I get the first message but after that everything is ok). I upgraded this computer to Windows 98 Second Edition as well without any problems occurring in PAWIN. Why is this problem only occurring on my new 770Z and not my old 765D as both machines are almost identical (ie. same operating system, same PAWIN files, etc…)? (more…)

Cannot read emailed file
By skid on May 1, 2000 in Specialised software | No Comments
I am using CorelDRAW 9 to design my advertising material, which is then sent to the business that does my printing. The commercial printer has CorelDRAW 8 on two networked computers in their office. I save my CorelDRAW 9 file in version 8 to my hard drive and then save it onto a disc or CD-ROM depending on the size of the job. The Printer is not able to read my files, (the files appear blank) when I take them on a disc or CD-ROM. However they can be read by the printer when I send the identical file, using the same format (version
via email. I used CorelDRAW 6 prior to the upgrade to 9 and the Printer experienced no problem when reading my files. I can read the same files on my own computer at home that has CorelDRAW 9 installed. Can you suggest a solution? (more…) -
