I am having problems with the colour on my monitor. Initially the problem was a “flickering” on the monitor causing the contrast to change from normal colour resolution to a “hazy” shade of green. The cable and connection appears to be OK. I have tested the monitor by connecting it to two other computers. The same effect occurred when connected to my laptop, but not on the computer at a computer shop I took the monitor to. I have successfully taken care of the “flickering” by turning off the hardware acceleration facility from Control Panel - Display. However, my monitor still displays a hazy green colour with all colours not being properly represented. There are no other problems with the monitor. Could there be a problem with the video card? My 14in colour monitor displays a split screen with the same information on both sides. It does this on all the computers I connect it to. It didn’t used to. How do I fix it? (more…)

I have just gotten my computer upgraded and noticed that I can change the screen resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 High Colour. I normally use my computer at 800 x 600 because after that I find it hard to read what is being displayed on the monitor because the letters are too small. The other day I wanted to see what the screen looked like at the highest resolution (1280 x 1024) but when I put the screen at this resolution the monitor went berserk and I couldn’t distinguish anything on it. I rebooted but it still was like that when the Windows 98 desktop loaded. Now I can’t use my computer because I can’t see anything on the monitor! Could you please help me restore it back to normal? Ever since I bought my computer I’ve had the problem that the monitor does not come on automatically. When I turn on the computer I have to wait and see if the monitor comes alive. If not, I turn it on and off a few times with its own switch, but that doesn’t work consistently. At worst, I turn the computer off. Because the screen is not on I cant log off, so when I start it again Windows has to go through and check itself - but the monitor always comes on. I asked the place I bought it off but they werent much help. They said it might be something to do with the monitor flipping into standby mode. (more…)
