Whenever a program, which has been running for a fair amount of time is closed the computer restarts! This occurs with most applications, such as Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Microsoft Word, etc’¦ The problem only started after upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows 2000. The computer is an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 256 MB RAM and a 40 GB hard drive. (more…)

I fitted a new 3 button mouse to my computer running Windows NT 4. When I try to log on to the internet (using my dial-up connection) an ‘Error 633′ message appears. It seems that the mouse is conflicting with the modem port. Next time I turned the machine on there was a noise, as if the keyboard was not plugged in. The keyboard was plugged in. Then I tried the keyboard on my other machine, running Windows 95, with no problems. After reconnecting the keyboard to my NT machine it no longer makes the chirping sound, instead when I reach the logon screen there is no response at all. All I can do is switch off. Any suggestions? Recently, I noticed that the ‘Properties’ window of any folder or disk does not appear when I right-click on the object and click ‘Properties’. The properties for files work as usual, but if I do the same for a folder or disk icon nothing happens. I’m running Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 2). (more…)

My Pentium III computer is set up to dual boot either Windows Professional 2000 or Windows 98. Windows 98 was the original operating system. The dual boot mechanism was set up automatically when I installed Windows Professional 2000. Now I would like to uninstall Windows Professional 2000, but am not sure how. Can you advise? If it is too complex to uninstall Windows Professional 2000 could you advise me how to change the boot menu default selection to Windows 98 rather than Windows 2000 Professional? (more…)

Many games don’t work on my home computer. I am running Windows 2000 Professional. A friend suggested that I downgrade to Windows 98 SE. However, is this possible? Another friend suggested that I could run both the operating systems on a single PC and while booting the computer I can choose the operating system I want to use. Can you let me know how to do this as well? My computer is a Celeron 850 MHz processor,128 RAM, and 20 GB HDD capacity. (more…)
