DOS mode freeze
By skid on January 24, 2000 @ 9:00 AM in Windows 95/98/Me | No Comments
Sometimes, when I spend about 2 hours or more in a full-screen DOS session, upon exiting back into Windows 98 the screen goes blank and the computer locks up. The Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) says that FindFast and MMsys are not responding, but when I try to end one of them the computer locks up completely. What’s happening and what can I do to stop it? Couldn’t load CFM.DLL, check BinDir in XCM.INI
By skid on January 24, 2000 @ 9:00 AM in Windows 95/98/Me | No Comments
I am operating Windows 98 SE on a Pentium 100 with a 8.4gb hard drive. When I open the ‘Control Panel’ I get the message ‘Couldn’t load CFM.DLL, check BinDir in XCM.INI’. If I click OK the Control Panel opens correctly. I have tried to find CMF.DLL unsuccessfully, both on my hard drive and Windows 98 CD. Its more a nuisance than anything else but I would like to get it fixed. Can you help please? (more…)

CD-ROM drives on boot disk
By skid on January 24, 2000 @ 9:00 AM in Windows 95/98/Me | No Comments
I recently bought a DOS based game (Privateer2) and am having trouble running it on my computer which has Win 95 installed. I created a Startup disk using AddRemove Programs on the Control Panel, but it didn’t have an Autoexec.Bat and only 1 line on the Config.Sys (DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS) I created an Autoexec.Bat from Privateer but when I reboot to DOS I cannot access the CD-Rom which is on E. I have 2 questions - why can’t I access the E: drive and is there an easy way using Win 95 to include all the lines for the CD-ROM, soundcard and mouse on the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys? Thanks.
