Medium speed error PDF Print
Sunday, 06 October 2002

Last year I bought a PIII 1 GHz running Windows Me. The computer has a CD-RW drive. However, after upgrading to Windows 2000 the CD-RW drive stopped working and I am not able to write any CDs. The Nero log advises that there has been a “medium speed error”. When I took the computer back to the vendor it wrote a CD successfully while at the shop but then failed to work when I returned home. Please advise. I am using Nero 5.

Windows not recognising ejected CD PDF Print
Sunday, 14 July 2002

I run Windows 98 and whenever I play a music CD on my computer it runs fine. However, when I try to eject the CD using the button on the front of the CD drive the computer still thinks there is a music CD in the drive. It'll even show me how many tracks there were on the CD. This can be temporarily fixed by either going into ‘My Computer’ and right clicking the D: drive and clicking ‘Eject’ or by pressing the eject button in CD Player. Is there a way I can permanently fix this problem?

Buffer underrun PDF Print
Sunday, 04 November 2001

I recently installed a 2x/4x/8x CD writer as a slave CD drive on my PC (Windows 98 SE, 10 GB, 128mb RAM). Three audio CDs were successfully copied from my CD ROM but after that the writer only completed one track before closing the session due to a buffer underrun. When I changed the write speed from 8x to 4x (on the advice of the CD writer vendor) the same problem occurred. The vendor then suggested that I drop the speed to 2x, however, the session closed also immediately having not even copied one full track). Do you have any suggestions to fix this problem? I also appear to have the KAK worm virus. Can you provide me with instructions to remove this virus?

Audio CDs on CD-ROM drive PDF Print
Sunday, 21 October 2001

When playing from audio CDs on my CD-ROM no sound comes through the PC speakers. The CD-ROM works because I can listen to CDs via the headphone jack on the CD-ROM and data CD’s play alright in the CD-ROM. The CD Player software utility works as I can select tracks to play and control the sound from audio CDs coming out of the headphone jack on the CD ROM drive. Finally, the speakers work because there is sound when playing PC games. Do you have any suggestions? If this is relevant, when listening to CDs via the headphone jack on the front of the CD ROM drive, there is no sound from the speakers. Is this a physical disconnection or software controlled?

The Active X/COM section of your Windows Registry contains one or more invalid entries PDF Print
Sunday, 17 June 2001

I have an Intel Celeron 466 Computer with Windows 98 SE, 128 MB RAM, Diamond Viper V770 Display, Creative DVD5241E Drive, and Rockwell HCF 56K Data Fax RTAD PCI Modem. Norton Windoctor regularly displays the error message “The Active X/COM section of your Windows Registry contains one or more invalid entries”. The details are: “Missing or Invalid Key: “AtWorkRenderingshellPrintTocommand” refers to an invalid command entry “C:Program FilesWindows UpdateRTF”” and “Missing or Invalid Key: “CLSID {65006770 - D9CF - 11CF - A036 - 00001B4EAD07}InprocServer32”. The Key “CLSID...” refers to missing file AMFILTER.DLL”. Windoctor fixes the above but not permanently. I sometimes notice that when I start up the computer the words "Aborting installation" appear. Apart from the very occasional crash on startup, the computer starts without any problem and the CD ROM drive works fine. Can you explain the above and offer a possible suggestion?
