ScannerFB has encountered a problem and needs to close PDF Print
Monday, 02 July 2007

On starting the computer an error message appears advising that “ScannerFB has encountered a problem and needs to close”. This began after downloading a batch of Windows updates. I have read this problem is related to HP scanners, but I do not have an HP scanner connected to the computer and have never owned an HP scanner. Also, the updates downloaded from Microsoft had no connection with HP. How can I stop this error appearing on startup? The computer is running Windows XP.

Recently I purchased a new digital camera, but the camera seems unable to communicate with the computer. When using the Scanner and Camera wizard a message appears saying “Unable to communicate with the Imaging Device. Please make sure it is connected and turned on”. The computer also says it cannot find the software for the camera, even though the software is definitely installed. The computer is running Windows Me.

Recently I purchased a Canon A520 digital camera which came with the ZoomBrowser software. When attempting to run this software, the following message appears: ‘Zb Module has encountered a problem and needs to close’. On clicking the button for more information, the explanation given is that the fault occurred in application “zoombrowser.exe” in module “zbdmv.dll”. Reinstalling the software does not fix the problem. The computer is running Windows XP Professional.

Whenever Windows starts a message appears advising: ‘ScannerFB - ScannerFB has encountered a problem and needs to close’ followed by the usual details of submitting an error report. This message is very annoying. Is there a way to prevent it from appearing? The computer is running Windows XP SP2.

Cannot download from camera PDF Print
Sunday, 30 October 2005

Recently I changed scanners from a Hewlett Packard Scanjet 3300C to a Canon Canoscan FB630P. The new Canoscan works, but I am now unable to download photos from my Sony Cybershot DSC-P9 digital camera. Although the camera is plugged into the computer through a USB connection, nothing happens. Normally, the ‘Scanners and Cameras’ wizard would appear as soon as the camera is connected, allowing me to download the photos. So, I manually open the ‘Scanners and Cameras’ control panel and a message appears saying the device is not connected, and I must follow the wizard to install the camera, but the camera is not listed in the device list. This issue only arose since the installation of the new Canoscan scanner. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition.
