When installing ‘Where in time is Carmen Sandiego’ the following message appears: ‘Qt32inst has caused an error in QT32INST.EXE. Qt32inst will now close’. Also, sometimes when turning on the computer, I end up with a totally blank blue screen and the bottom task bar which is frozen. The only solution is to restart the computer. Why does that happen and is there anything I can do about it? The computer is a Celeron 600 running Windows ME.

Playing AVI videos PDF Print
Sunday, 21 September 2003

I have a fairly old PC with a 200 MHz processor with 256MB RAM running Windows 2000. I would like to be able to view AVI video clips. All the freeware/shareware players seem to require specifications above my PC. Are there any players that would work? I have Windows Media Player 7.01.00.3055. Is there a codec to allow this to play AVI format, or would I have to upgrade to Windows Media Player 9?

Unable to download an appropriate decompressor PDF Print
Sunday, 04 May 2003

My Windows NT 4 computer at home is not connected to the internet. I downloaded Windows Media Player at my place of work and then copied the media player onto a CD. Although all programs seem to load OK they want to access the Internet. When I try to run an *.wmv file, I receive the message “Unable to download an appropriate decompressor”. Will I have to use a modem for the NT 4 box and download more files from the Internet before Windows Media Player will work?
