U3 removal PDF Print
Monday, 23 June 2008

I have bought a SanDisk Cruzer 1 GB thumb drive, which incorporates something called the ?U3 System?. I only wanted the thumb drive to be a data repository, and have found the U3 to be distracting and very annoying with all its pop-up windows and menus that appear when the drive is inserted into the computer. The thumb drive appears within Windows as a removable disk and also a CD-ROM drive. In an attempt to remove U3 I found a program called ?Launchpad Removal Program? on SanDisk?s website, but this does not seem to work. Subsequently, I also tried formatting the drive but this also did not remove U3. Looking through Disk Management I found that the removable drive and CD-ROM drive portions of the thumb drive are classified as partitions on the thumb drive, but cannot be removed (as the ?Delete Partition? button is disabled). Can you please explain how U3 can be removed from the thumb drive?

Printer redetected on every startup PDF Print
Monday, 23 June 2008

I recently connected an HP Photosmart printer to my computer running Windows XP. Now, every time I boot Windows the printer is re-detected and reinstalled. This means that I end up with several copies of the same printer installed. How can I prevent this from happening?

Laptop screen goes blank PDF Print
Monday, 09 June 2008

Occasionally my laptop screen goes blank and returns back to life, but with lines on the window title bars and start menu. This makes the text quite difficult to read, and indicates that something is not quite right. Additionally, when playing DVDs the screen can go blank with the DVD still playing in the background (as I can still hear the audio). I am unsure whether a hardware or software issue is causing this problem. However, I suspect this may be a hardware problem as sometimes when the laptop goes through the power-on self-test (before the Windows logo splash screen appears) all these little coloured dots appear on the screen. Do you have any advice for resolving this issue? The computer is running Windows XP.

Computer intermittently enters sleep mode PDF Print
Monday, 09 June 2008

My computer intermittently enters sleep mode, and there does not seem to be any reason for this behaviour. When the computer goes into sleep mode no frantic pushing of buttons is able to restore the computer from sleep, so I turn the computer off and on at the power point to restore operation. I have disabled all the sleep type options within the Power Options control panel, but the problem remains. Could it have something to do with the wireless keyboard and mouse connected to the computer? The computer is running Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Playing MPEG files PDF Print
Monday, 02 June 2008

I recently had difficulty playing MPEG movie clips and, after searching the internet, a link appeared saying these problems can be solved by downloading a program called RegCure. Have you heard of this program, and will it solve the problem? From reading the description of RegCure it claims to also make the computer run more efficiently. The computer is running Windows XP.
